Critique Group Contest: We need YOU!!
Due to the chaos that is LIFE, CritiqueThis has lost two of it’s super-awesome critters. Merissa & Julie, we hate to see you go, but we wish you the best as you continue on your journey through writing.
What does this mean for you, our lovely readers? That we have spots available in our group, of course!
Have you ever wanted to be part of a critique group, but haven’t known quite where to look? Our romantic critique group, CritiqueThis, has three spots open and waiting to be filled. To fill these spots, we are holding a contest here on our blog. If you’re interested in becoming part of our group, read on…
The CritiqueThis Membership Contest
(unpublished & published writers are welcome)
About the group: CritiqueThis is a small critique group for romance writers. Our current members are Courtney Reese and Margaret Bail. Ideally, we’d like to have 4-5 members who will be open and honest in their critiques, and be available to participate in blog postings once a week.
How we work: We don’t sugarcoat our critiques, and we expect the same in return—tell us your honest opinion of what works and what doesn’t. We also tend to chat on IM (especially when plotting or writing that tricky, little scene) so we ask that you make yourself available when you can. Group e-mails are sent out regularly, and it’s very important that you keep up with them and reply promptly.
Rules for Membership:
1. The rules for the group are simple—every week you are responsible for ONE critique. That’s it, just the one; not one per member…one critique, period. If you have the time to do more than one a week—fabulous!
2. You will also be responsible for one blog post a week (with one week off per month). These blog posts will rotate between a writing-related post and Friday Fiction.
3. Last but not least, you must be a romance writer—it doesn’t matter which sub-genre, but there must be romance in it. Romantic Suspense, Contemporary Romance, Paranormal Romance, etc.
THE CONTEST—Contestants Need Apply:
Phase 1 ABOUT YOU; WRITING SAMPLE: If CritiqueThis seems like the group for you, you can apply today! All you need to do is send us an e-mail to critiquethiswip@gmail.com with a brief introduction about who you are and why you think our group would be a good fit, along with your name, sub-genre, and your blog or website address. After that, provide a 2 page writing sample from an unpublished project that you have recently written. Once we receive your e-mail, we’ll send you a confirmation e-mail to let you know we have received your application.
**Please expect our e-mail within 24-48 hours after you submit.**
Phase 2 SAMPLE CRITIQUE: Margaret and Courtney will review each application to determine the best fit for our group. If you are selected to move on to the second—and final—phase of the contest, we will e-mail you a 2 page writing sample for you to critique. Once again, after you submit the “Sample Critique”, we will send you a confirmation e-mail to let you know we have received your Sample Crit in our inbox. **Again, please allow 24-48 hours for the confirmation e-mail** Once we have reviewed all submissions, we will e-mail the winners of the contest, and announce the newest members to CritiqueThis on our blog!
Deadlines: The deadline for applications (Phase 1) is Wednesday, June 9th Monday, June 14th.
On Monday, June 14th Wednesday, June 16th, our finalists will move on to the Sample Critiques(Phase 2).
Winners will be announced on Monday, June 21st.

Do you only want published writers?
Not at all. Published and unpublished, all are welcome!
Good luck! This is exactly how we fill spots for our crit group and it works well. We just held a contest a few weeks ago and had so many good people submit that it turned out to be a really difficult decision.
I'll tweet you in case any of the people that applied to our group are still looking. :)
Roni- *Blush* We actually saw your contest--that's where we got the idea =)
Thanks for tweeting for us !! We don't have nearly as many readers as you guys do. Have a great weekend!
Thanks for posting the link for this on my blog! I sent Phase 1 in (Yay!) and am ever so hopeful!
Bah. Missed it by thaaaat much. Good luck, all!
